All Poulis S.A. Pear production is certified by GlobalGAP. The fruit is stored in state-of-the-art company owned cooling rooms located in Agia, Larisa, and the packing takes place in the company-owned BRC, IFS, ISO22000 and SMETA certified packing. The fruit is transported in privately owned refrigerator trucks from production to packing.
Continuous monitoring of pear orchards, oversight of harvesting by agricultural experts, and determination of the right stage of ripeness for the desired values of sugars and dry matter ensure the high quality of the fruit. Thanks to the advanced technology of Poulis S.A. storage facilities, the fruit is kept under ideal conditions, contributing to a product that can maintain its quality characteristics –flavor and firmness –for an extended period.

Where do they come from?
A gift from the Gods.. The pear comes from countries which are found around the Caspian sea. There were pear trees in ancient Greece and it seems that the word pear in Greek “ahladi” means “wildflower”. There are thousands of varieties of pears and one of its characteristics, along with apples, is that they can be preserved for many months, giving us the chance to enjoy them all year round.
When should they be planted?
Pears are collected from June up until October, depending on the variety. Few people know, or rather few people notice that two Greek varieties of pears, “kontoules” (shorties) and “crystalia” ripen during the summer. Most people consider them winter fruits when they are not.
Climate
Pears are planted in lowland areas up to an altitude of 1.000 meters. They are not planted in areas that have hot and humid summers with a lot of rain.
